BitDegree is an online education platform that rewards learners with cryptocurrency for completing courses. However, it faced low user engagement and retention rates, similar to other MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses).
BitDegree hired the Octalysis Group, a gamification design consultancy, to help them increase user motivation and behavior using behavioral science and user experience design.
The Octalysis Group applied The Octalysis framework, which analyzes human motivation based on eight core drives, to redesign BitDegree's learning journey.
We introduced various gamification elements such as quests, challenges, feedback loops, social features, and personalization to make learning more fun, meaningful, and rewarding.
As a result of this gamification design project, BitDegree saw a dramatic improvement in their key metrics:
- course completion rate increased by 300% and
- sales increased by 400% in just three months.
